Submission of Manuscripts

Author's Identity

NJE uses double-blind review process where both the reviewer and the author are anonymous to each other. As such,

- First and Last names of all of the authors should be given completely
- Emails of all authors should be written completely
- Affiliations of all authors should be written completely
- Summary should be structured (aim/background, methods, results, conclusion).

******In Submitted Files*******
- Author names MUST be deleted from manuscript file.
- Organisation/Affiliation of authors MUST be deleted from manuscript file.

 

Submission of Manuscripts

Contributors are expected to submit their manuscripts on-line. The soft copy of the manuscript should be uploaded to NJE web site and evidence of the payment of processing fee of N5,000.00 (Five thousand Naira only) e-mailed to nje@abu.edu.ng as well as copy njeabu@yahoo.com. After a successful pre-review of the manuscript, it will be assigned to reviewers.

Authors of accepted manuscripts will be required to pay a NGN 25,000 (Twenty five thousand Naira only) as publication fee. The processing fee and publication for accepted manuscripts should be paid to the Nigerian Journal of Engineering using the following details:

Evidence of payment should be sent to the NJE e-mail addresses provided.

Preparation of Manuscript

Authors should take sufficient care in the preparation of their manuscript for submissions for consideration for publication. Special care should be taken to correct spelling, punctuation and grammatical mistakes. Strict adherence to the format recommended for the preparation of manuscripts will  ensure  faster processing of manuscripts.   .

Recommended Format

The following format is recommended for publication in the NJE:

Use Microsoft Word for preparation of the manuscript. It must conform to A4 paper, 12-point Times Roman font face; double spacing, leaving a 25 mm margin on all sides of the paper. The text, figures and tables in the manuscript should not exceed 15 pages. Additional NGN2,000 (Two thousand Naira only) per page shall be charged for manuscripts that exceed the stipulated number of pages.

For final submission, the first text page should contain the title of the paper, the name (s) of the author (s), in full (i.e., initials are not allowed) with the surname in upper case, their contact addresses, e-mail addresses and an abstract. The corresponding author should be indicated and the phone number included.

The main headings should be in upper case, sub-headings in title case and sub-sub headings in sentence case with all being in bold prints and not numbered.

Originality of Manuscript

Authors should ensure at all times to submit work that is their own. In the event where case of plagiarism is detected, necessary action will be taken.

Title of paper

The title of the paper should be in capital letters (upper case) and should be as brief as possible.

Author’s name and address

Author’s full name should be provided in the online submission form (NOT on the manuscript) with the surname coming last in upper case. Avoid the use of titles for authors. 

Abstract

The abstract should include a brief introduction with a clear definition of the objective of the study, experimental approach, major results and conclusions. It should not exceed 250 words.

Introduction

The introduction should give motivation or precise statement of the problem including research gap and objectives for the study carried out.

Materials and Methods

The section should include relevant details of the materials used and experimental procedure. Where standard experimental procedures have been employed, a detailed description of the method is unnecessary, and a reference should be provided. However, where  new  experimental  procedures have been used, a detailed description should be provided.

Results and Discussion

The results should be clearly presented  using clear and neatly presented figures or tables. The same results should not be presented as tables and figures. The discussion should interpret the research findings using recent and relevant published works on the topic. 

Conclusion

The conclusion should state only the major findings of the study and it should be clear and concise.

Acknowledgement(s)

Acknowledgments (where necessary) should be included at the end of the manuscript and not in footnotes.

References

NJE uses APA style of referencing. References should be cited in the text using authors’ surnames - year (e.g., X and Y (2018)) and where there are more than two authors use X et al. (2015). Manuscripts referenced should be listed alphabetically.
