Malaysian Journal of Paediatric Dentistry
GUIDE FOR AUTHORS

Malaysian Journal of Paediatric Dentistry is dedicated to the sharing of research, audits and cases related to the management of paediatric patients. The topics of interest for this journal include: 

  • Behaviour management therapy 

  • Cariology and preventive dentistry

  • Craniofacial anomalies 

  • Dental trauma 

  • Economic evaluation 

  • Interceptive orthodontics 

  • Imaging for paediatric dental patients 

  • Medically compromised children 

  • Oral pathology

  • Regenerative dentistry

  • Paediatric Dental education 

  • Paediatric pulp therapy 

  • Paediatric restorative dentistry

  • Special needs children

And any other topic which is of interest to the Paediatric Dental community



The types of article accepted by this journal are: 


  1. Original research & Audit


Introduction: Should give a background of the related area of research and provide an overview of the problem and why the study is important. This section should state the aims and objectives of the study

Materials & Method: Describe the study design in a way that the experiment can be reproduced. Include ethical approval reference if the study involves humans or animals. State the type of statistical analysis used. 

Results: Clearly report the findings. Ensure that there is no repetition of data from tables and graphs in the text. Use the appropriate graphs/illustration to depict the results 

Discussion: Interpretation of the results should be presented in this section. Any reference to literature can be addressed here (i.e comparison with previous studies). Can include limitation of study and recommendation for future studies 

Conclusion: Sum up the key findings of this study, can state recommendation if any 




  1. Review article 

The journal accepts narrative and systematic review. The following criteria must be adhered to for reviews: 

  • Describe the rationale for the review 

  • Provide an explicit statement of questions addressed with reference to participants (P), interventions (I), comparison (C) and outcome (O). 

  • At least 3 search strategies used for relevant literature 

  • Use a PRISMA flowchart to illustrate the study selection, inclusion and exclusion criteria

  • Discussion should include summary of evidence, limitations and the main points related to the topic 


  1. Case report

Sharing of case reports, whether a single case or a series of cases aims to explore unique cases or new methods of treatment. The following outline should be followed: 

Introduction: Try to keep this brief and relevant to the case study

Case report: A description of patient, presenting condition, investigations used, treatment modality and follow-up

Discussion: Should highlight any interesting aspects of the case and provide a scientific appraisal of any related publication

This journal uses the Vancouver Citation & Referencing style. In text reference should be indicated using Arabic numerals in superscript.

Kindly use Arial size 11 for the manuscript. Use double spacing for the entire document. 

Avoid any information which may identify the authors as the review process is blinded to prevent any bias. 

Tables should be numbered within the text and inserted at the end of the document.  Photographs must be numbered within text but submitted separately as JPEG or PNG files.
